It's Property Tax Review Season
Real property tax assessment notices are mailed at the end of January or the beginning of February. At the end of February, the personal property tax assessment notices will be in the mail. For a variety of reasons, 2008 will be an unusual year for both real and personal property tax. The State Tax Commission has stated that they expect a record number of appeals. Property tax appeals are time sensitive. It is very important that appeals are done on time. Following are important dates to remember:
2008 Assessed Value and/or Tentative Taxable Value
Board of Review - March 2008 (check with your local unit of government for exact dates)
Michigan Tax Tribunal - May 31, 2008 for Industrial Development or Commercial Class
July 31, 2008 for Residential, Timber-Cutover or Agricultural
2008 Assessment Classification
Board of Review - March 2008 (check with your local unit of government for exact dates)
State Tax Commission - June 30, 2008
Michigan Tax Tribunal - No Review Authority
