Prospects for Additional Amendments to the Michigan Business Tax Act

It looks very likely that there will be additional amendments to the Michigan Business Tax Act.  Since the start of the year, Public Act 36 has been amended twelve times.  Currently there are over 50 bills to amend the MBT introduced in either the House of Representatives or the Senate.  Although the legislators are not anxious to take on further work on the MBT, it is expected some movement will be made after the election and before the end of the year.  We don't expect any major revisions of the structure of the MBT until a complete filing season has been completed and numbers available on how the tax affected various taxpayers as well as the total tax collected.  However, before the end of the year we expect to see a technical amendment bill to address a limited list of concerns.
