New Michigan State Tax Commission Created By Executive Order

Governor Granholm has issued an executive order ( Executive Order 2009-51, 10/29/2009) creating a new State Tax Commission within the Department of Treasury.  The Order transfers the authority, powers, duties, and functions of the old State Tax Commission and the State Assessor's Board to the new entity, and abolishes the old State Tax Commission and the State Assessor's Board.

This action is expected to lead to more effective implementation of tax policy, greater administrative efficiencies, and reductions in expenditures. The provisions of this executive order are effective December 28, 2009.
