When Michigan accepts MBT e-file returns. Although the IRS will begin accepting business e-file returns on January 7, Michigan will not begin retrieving and accepting MBT e-file returns until January 25, 2010, and therefore, will begin issuing acknowledgments for MBT e-file returns on January 26, 2010.
E-file mandate for 2009 tax year. Effective for the 2009 tax year, software developers producing MBT tax preparation software must support e-file for all eligible MBT forms that are included in their tax preparation software. All eligible MBT returns prepared using software must be e-filed.

Will the State be issuing CSN numbers like they did for the former SBT? I did not efile any MBT's last year due the fact the I do not have a scanner to import my client signature and attach to the 2008 MBT.

Elliott,
Here is a link to Treasury "FAQ" E2. Paste to your browser and it will take you directly to the FAQ.

What the FAQ says is, Treasury is not issuing Customer Service Numbers (CSN) for MBT e-file. The CSN issued for Single Business Tax e-file cannot be used for MBT e-file return submissions.

What is the penalty for electing to manually file the returns instead of electronically filing the returns?
Thanks.

Greg,
I could not find a penalty for filing a manual return instead of electronically filing the return. The problem may be one of processing.

Thanks for looking. I couldn't find one either, and wasn't sure if I was missing it.
